Summary
Nicholas' first day of school, where he learns his first signs and realizes that he can communicate with others using commonly understood signs.

Nicholas is a little Deaf boy. This first book in a planned series follows him on his very first day of school. It has been expertly edited and illustrated and is currently in the layout process. I hope to publish it by the end of the year.
Nicholas is the only Deaf child in a hearing classroom. Luckily, his teacher is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). With her help, he learns his first signs—and is thrilled to discover that with just a few basic signs, he can connect with the other children in his class.
I taught Deaf preschool-aged children for many years. The character of Nicholas is fashioned after one of those students who left a lasting impression on me.
Deafness does not mean something is broken or impaired and must be fixed. But it can be a profoundly isolating disability. When asked whether she would rather be Deaf or blind, Helen Keller answered: “Blind.” Her reasoning?
"Blindness separates you from things. Deafness separates you from people."

My previously published children’s books—I Don’t Like That!, Jasmine’s Heart, and Jacob and the Coronavirus—are available for purchase on Amazon by clicking the blue Amazon link and scrolling down to see my books. They are also available on Goodreads and in the iTunes Bookstore.
An honest review is always deeply appreciated. It’s the only way self-published books rise in Amazon’s ranking system and reach more readers. Reviews can make or break a writer.
Another option is to join my Booksprout review team. Registration on Booksprout is free. Once you sign up, you can claim the book in PDF, Mobi (for Kindle), or ePub format (for iBooks and other reading apps), read it, and a few days later post a review. Booksprout will then share your review to Amazon.
